Thando Zwane appeared in the title role in Don Giovanni at the Brooklyn Theatre in Pretoria in January 2017. The bass baritone from Swaziland studied at the Department of Vocal Arts at Tshwane University of Technology in South Africa from 2010 to 2016. During this time he gained experience on stage as Mephistopheles in Faust (2013), Dandini and Don Magnifico in La Cenerentola (2014), Ford in Falstaff (2015) and Guglielmo and Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte (2016). Since 2007 Thando has enjoyed success in singing competitions: He won first prize in the “Solo Baritone” category on several occasions at the South African Tertiary Institutions Choral Association. In 2013 he came second in the Amazwi Omzansi Africa National Opera Singing Competition. As well as singing, Thando also likes to spend time conducting: In 2016 he won second prize in the Old Mutual National Choir Festival conducting the St. Florence Catholic Church Choir from Swaziland.
