Vanessa Vasquez sang the role of Liù in Turandot at the Des Moines Metro Opera in summer 2017. The soprano is in her second year as Resident Artist at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia, where she made her debut as Mimi in La bohème in 2015 and also sang the roles of Donna Anna in Don Giovanni and Gilda in Rigoletto. Vanessa gained additional experience at the Astoria Music Festival as Desdemona (Otello) and Dido (Dido and Aeneas). In 2018 Vanessa will be singing the role of Micaёla in Carmen at the Dallas Opera. For 2019 she is scheduled to portray Mimi at the Opera Philadelphia and Liù at the Canadian Opera Company. The singer completed her Master’s degree at the University of California Los Angeles in 2014. 2017 was a successful competition year for Vanessa: She was Grand National Winner at the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and also won top prize in the Gerda Lissner Foundation International Competition.
