Biographie

Božidar Smiljanić will make his debut at the English National Opera in March 2018 as Marchese d’Obigny in La traviata. The singer, who is of Serbian descent, finished his music studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London in 2016. During this time he appeared on stage in roles such as Betto (Gianni Schicchi), Nick Shadow (The Rake’s Progress) and in the title role in The Marriage of Figaro. Božidar made his professional debut in Glyndebourne in 2014, where he appeared as a captain in Eugene Onegin. This was followed by his debut at the Garsington Opera in 2016, where he sang Haly in L’italiana in Algeri. Božidar also took part in Glyndebourne on Tour, where he played Masetto in Don Giovanni. In summer 2017 the bass baritone made his debut at the Scottish Opera as Schaunard in La bohème, and he was one of 13 singers chosen to take part in the International Meistersinger Akademie in Neumarkt. Božidar is a regular soloist in oratorios and lieder recitals in England. While on tour in the US and Germany he presented a program of cantatas by J. S. Bach with the Academy Baroque Orchestra.
