Biographie

Mandla Mndebele is a soloist with the Cape Town Opera. He completed his singing training with a diploma at the Tshwane University of Technology in Pretoria. Before joining the opera studio at Cape Town Opera the baritone was a member of the choir in the Black Tie Ensemble and Opera Africa. He appeared as Crown (Porgy and Bess) in Barcelona in 2014, Madrid in 2015 and Buenos Aires in 2016. He gained further stage experience singing the roles of Giorgio Germont in La traviata, Le Dancaïre in Carmen, Papageno in The Magic Flute, Chief L’Zitho in The Merry Widow of Malagawi and the title role in Don Giovanni. In 2016 he appeared as Mandela 3 in the musical homage entitled Mandela Trilogy, which was performed on a number of stages worldwide. In 2017 Mandla came third in the International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition and won the Audience Award.
