In summer 2017, Chen Zhiyuan sang the role of Licinio in Aureliano in Palmira at the Belcanto Opera Festival in Rossini in Wildbad (Black Forest, Germany). The young Chinese bass-baritone singer began his studies at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music in 2013 and aims to graduate in 2018. Chen Zhiyuan has been singing in a choir since he was 10 and has been taking singing lessons since he was 16. From 2014 onwards, he has been gaining on-stage experience at various opera houses in Shanghai with roles such as Simone (Gianni Schicchi), Leporello (Don Giovanni) and Agamemnon (La belle Hélène). In December 2017, Chen Zhiyuan will sing the lead role in Don Pasquale at the Shanghai Opera. He has won numerous prizes at singing competitions in China. He won first prize at the 9th International Lions Singing Competition at the Festspiele Immling festival in 2017, and also received a young talent award.
