Sophie de Lint

Director of the Dutch National Opera


Sophie de Lint is the director of the Dutch National Opera and took over this position in September 2018.

She was born in Rotterdam and attended high school in Geneva. She pursued violin studies at the Conservatoire de Musique de Genève. She completed a degree in Business Administration at Webster University in Geneva and holds an Executive Master in Arts Administration degree from Zurich University.

Her wide-ranging career includes numerous artistic and administrative responsibilities for various opera houses and artist agencies. From 1994 to 2001 Sophie de Lint worked at the Grand Théâtre de Genève as personal assistant to the General Manager, Renée Auphan. Subsequently she gained extensive experience as an assistant director at various opera houses and festivals such as the Bayreuther Festspiele, New National Theatre Tokyo and Festspielhaus Baden-Baden. From 2002 to 2006 she served as Artist Manager at Laurent Delage Artists Management in Vienna, where she specialized in the discovery and development of young opera singers, conductors and directors. From 2006 to 2009 she worked as Artist Manager for Artists Management Zürich before focusing on her new position at the Zurich Opera between 2010 and 2012. Sophie de Lint has been the Artistic Director of the Zurich Opera from the season 2012/13 until 2018.

Sophie de Lint is a frequent jury member of international competitions such as Le Concours Régine Crespin, the Francisco Viñas Competition, the Queen Sonja International Music Competition (chairing the jury), Competizione dell'Opera, the Singing Competition of Toulouse , the Galina Vishnevskaya Singing Competition, the Ernst Haefliger Singing Competition and the Cesti Competition.
