Lenka Radecky

Biography

Born in Switzerland, Lenka Radecky started her career as costume assistant at the Bavarian State Opera Munich in 1995. In this position she worked with a number of renowned costume designers.

Since 1998 Lenka Radecky has been working as a free lance costume designer.

From 2001 till 2017 she was head of the costume department of the Tyrolean Festival Erl. In 2007 it went from being a seasonal occupation to a full time manufacturer of costumes for the festival. Here Lenka Radecky has designed the costumes for all of the productions of the Tyrolean Festival Erl.

The Tyrolean Festival Erl have performed the first performance of Wagner’s The Mastersingers of Nuremberg and Tristan and Isolde in Beijing at the Beijing Music Festival and The Ring of the Nibelung in 24 hours in the Shanghai Concert Hall in October 2015.

From 2004 till 2010 Lenka joined forces with the choreographer Jörg Mannes, together they have worked on Movimenti in 2004 and Romeo and Juliet in 2006 at the Landestheater Linz as well as Moliere, Romeo and Juliet, Beethoven4 in 2007, Pulcinella/Stabat Mater and Cinderella in 2008 at the State Opera Hannover. In December 2007 they worked with the famous ballet company of the Bavarian State Opera Munich on the ballet based on Shakespeare’s The Tempest and in 2010 there were a ballet evening Wohin er auch blickt...with various compositions by Maurice Ravel.

For one of Europe’s most predacious Passion Plays, Erl in Austria, Lenka Radecky was commissioned in 2008 to make over 800 new costumes and in May 2013 she adapted the costumes for the 400 year anniversary of the Passion Play Erl from the 2008 production.

In 2013 Lenka Radecky designed the costumes for the first ever production of Wagner’s Parsifal at the National Opera Seoul under the direction of Phillip Arlaud.

Starting in September 2018 she will be the Head of the Costume Department at the Bregenzer Festspiele.
