Spotlight!

NEUE STIMMEN

Ah yes, the spotlight - what you wouldn't do for it. Bright and radiant, it wants to show us something. Today we grab it to draw your attention to a few inspiring and funny discoveries we found on the internet. And what you don't find there, right?! We scroll for hours on Instagram, watch the fiftieth TikTok-video and stream (if not even binge-watch) the newest show on Netflix.

However, as an artist, it’s important to get a certain glance of what’s happening around you. Being empathetic to others, looking at different perspectives, turning left and right - all this helps to get a broad view of what’s happening around oneself and getting shaped as an artist.

So, we thought we'd take some of the work off your hands and make a little selection for you. Meet our new category “Spotlight!”: we've decided to share some of our finds with you at regular intervals, hoping you'll enjoy them as much as we do.

Today, in our first edition, we are presenting to you three women who are smart, inspiring and tartly entertaining:

  1. World-renowned British mezzo-soprano Sarah Connolly, talking about what Brexit means for (British) artists,

  2. Bestselling author Elizabeth Gilbert offers a new perspective on the concepts of career and vocation

  3. …and American stand-up comedian Taylor Tomlinson with some special thoughts on the so-called quarter-life-crisis.

And now, make yourselves a coffee, chop some veggies or just listen - these women have something to say, each in her own distinctive way.

Enjoy!

Sarah Connolly

One to One with Dame Sarah Connolly, world-famous mezzo-soprano

In her One to One interview, mezzo-soprano Dame Sarah Connolly, a vocal opponent of the British government’s Brexit proposals, talked about the current plight of U.K. musicians and the campaign to secure visa-free travel arrangements for artists wishing to perform in the European Union. She also discussed the effect of the pandemic on her own life as well as her hopes for the future of live performance.

The Brexit is an important and relevant issue for a lot of artists. The wonderful Beth Taylor, a British 2019 alumni, will share some experiences with us in her upcoming Diary entry.

Elizabeth Gilbert

Taylor Tomlinson

Taylor Tomlinson Hates Being In Her 20s | Netflix Is A Joke

Being in your 20s might not be the best time in your life.
