Welcome to our NEUE STIMMEN Diary

Vera & Dorothea

In February, when the sky seems to be always greyish, everyone suffers from a natural deficiency of vitamin D and we are determined to stick to our New Year' s resolutions, it’s a good time to take a deep breath, reminding ourselves what we are thankful for and doing a recap.

And what a turbulent year it has been! As we all try to find the ways in our “new normal” and we nearly one year in this “Whatever-it-is”-situation, let's shake off the rust and embrace new opportunities - and be happy about every little glimpse of sunlight we get ;) Vitamin D is important!

For our work at NEUE STIMMEN, there were things we weren’t able to do, things we did differently as we thought in the first place and things, we are still bother aspiring to. One of these last-mentioned things is creating a bigger stage and better connection not only for our work, but also for the inspiring people working with us. This ambition is to be implemented with this diary.

During our 2020 Masterclass, which, as you may know, took place solely digitally, we had, amongst other things, compelling discussions and exchanges of ideas about a singer’s life and the wonderful but also bizarre phenomena that go with it. Who is the singer once he or she leaves the stage? What is happening in his or her life? What are his or her inspirations? However, not only singers, but also other members of the NEUE STIMMEN family working in the opera scene, have entertaining and fascinating stories to tell. That is why our project partners will also have their chance to share their insights with you.

And what is the NEUE STIMMEN team doing? Who is part of the team and what are we inspired by? What is a day in our office like? How scurrying does it usually get before the final week of the competition? And what stories about the competition can be told after more than 30 years? Not to mention the developments in the opera sector - those that already happen, and those that are yet to come. Worth to talk about, right?!

With this diary we want to give our talented singers and our knowledgeable project partners the chance to share experiences, challenges, and inspirations from their artists’ life, with a few little insights from us as well ;)

This is for you, whoever you may be, to get a glimpse behind the curtain. Consider yourselves invited.

Virtual greetings and stay tuned,

Vera & Dorothea

What inspired us lately...

But I'm a fire and I'll keep your brittle heart warm
If your cascade ocean wave blues come
All these people think love's for show
But I would die for you in secret
The devil's in the details, but you got a friend in me
Would it be enough if I could never give you peace?
Peace, Taylor Swift

- What to watch -

Martin Scorsese Presents | Pretend It’s A City | Official Trailer | Netflix

It's a wonderful mini series about the famous writer Fran Lebowitz and a hommage to New York City and its icons!
